Frank van Leth is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences at the Vrije Univeritei in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  He has an extensive research portfolio in the fields of HIV and tuberculosis. As an epidemiologist, he has a personal affinity for novel, yet context-sensitive, methodological approaches for capturing public health needs and designing appropriate interventions. His current line of research is in the field of antimicrobial resistance.

He is one  of the vice-directors of the Amsterdam Public Health (APH) research institute that harbours over 1,900 researchers from the two academic teaching hospitals in Amsterdam, and their associated universities: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the Universiteit van Amsterdam. His portfolio in APH includes scientific quality, talent development, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Frank van Leth served as the chair of TBnet (2016-2020), a European Consortium with over 650 members dedicated to collaborative basic, translational, clinical, and applied TB research. Other past and current international collaborations include Padjadjaran University, Jakarta, Indonesia; Univerisity of Sumatera Utara, Medan, Indonesia; Makarere University, Uganda; Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium, HIV-NAT / Thai Red Cross Hopsital, Bangkok, Thailand, and Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Bangkok, Thailand.

He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, and a past Associate Editor of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases.
